Attached is a seven page report on a study done by the Cooperative Extension Service of the UH College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources forwarded to me by Sol Kaho`ohalahala’s campaign.

In short, the study identifies $3.7 billion that resident consumers spent on food in ’04-’05 and with 85% of this imported, we are sending $3.1 billion leaving our economy.  If we just replaced 10% of this with locally grown and raised food, we would have a $313 million market.    This translates to $94 million at the farm level.
Check out the report.   I will be reading it more closely and sharing what I find.  You should too.

With visitor spending it goes up to close to $7 billion. So you could almost double all of these numbers. Not sure why they are not including the visitors? Maybe thinking of a scenario where there are none?
